Tommy Hafey celebrates turning 75- with a swim in Port Phillip Bay!

Tommy Hafey

Tommy Hafey

An AFL legend – as player and four times premier coach- Tommy Hafey
celebrated his 75th birthday last Saturday with his daily run and swim in
the icy waters of Port Phillip Bay, followed by a football game as spectator
and game caller for the ABC radio , then a sportsman’s night.

Tommy has not changed his fitness routine for decades and does not wear a
wetsuit for his swim whatever the weather. He also writes a weekly column,
motivates footballers and school students all over Melbourne. He says he has
enjoyed every job he has undertaken- inside and out of football

He knows he can’t ignore old age but he believes he can prolong it, and has
twice yearly medical check ups, and he sticks to what the doctor says. And
does it all with a nice cup of tea.
