Australian scientists are working on a tiny device that is hoped will have a big impact on treating chronic pain including back pain and migraines.
The INS2 device which has smartchips the size of a match-head and a power source the size of mobile phone sim card is seen as a major advance on the now matchbox-sized conventional technology.
Dr John Parker from Sydney-based National ICT Australia says the experimental device could be placed by the spine or inside the body where it could then be fine-tuned to help block out pain.
