The price of life for seniors
National Seniors presented its stance on the rising cost of living, at a Senate inquiry public hearing held recently in Brisbane.
Chief executive, Michael O’Neill, spoke on the cost of living pressures on older Australians, particularly those on low fixed incomes.
National Seniors highlighted the difficulty of dealing with such price increases, especially for people on the single age pension.
Latest Australian Bureau of Statistics figures show that living costs have jumped over the past 12 months.
Food costs have increased by 6.2% and health services have gone up by 4.7%.
Housing costs have also increased by 3.4 %
