The politicians who care

Twenty Six federal politicians from four political parties have formed a new group in support of the 2.6 million Australians who provide care to a family member or friend with a disability, mental illness, chronic condition, or who is aged and frail.

The Parliamentary Friends of Carers will be officially launched today (
28 March)at 12:00 pm in Parliament House, Canberra.
Speaking at the launch will be Co-Chair of the Parliamentary Friends of
Carers, Senator Grant Chapman, Carers Australia Ambassador, Tania Hayes, and the President of Carers Australia, Ben Chodziesner.

The event will be attended by members of the Parliamentary Friends, a
number of current carers from around Australia, and invited guests.
“It is essential to us that this group is more than just a list of names” Mr Chodziesner said. “We want the Parliamentary Friends of Carers to voice the concerns of carers and their families in public and behind the scenes to ensure these issues are heard by the people who need to hear them.”
“I am confident that carers around Australia will be very pleased to know there are people in parliament who are willing to go into bat for them.”
The Parliamentary Friends of Carers is Co-Chaired by Senator Grant
Chapman and Ms Anna Burke MP.
