Gill Plastow and Donna Kelly will tomorrow set out on a two week walk from Ceduna to Woomera to help raise awareness and much needed funds for the Heart Foundation.

Over the 14 days, the pair will walk more than 494 kilometres, averaging over 35 kilometres a day.

The walk will see them, accompanied by a backup crew with supplies, journey through Goog’s Track, Tarcoola, Kingoonya and Glendambo before arriving at Woomera on Saturday, 3 August to celebrate Ms Plastow’s 70th birthday.

Ms Plastow’s inspirational journey is dedicated to her youngest son, Mark, who died of Cardiomyopathy at the age of 15. A national age champion swimmer, Mark was in peak physical health.

“So many of us have seen the effects of heart disease among family and friends, and I feel very strongly about creating awareness that heart disease can affect the young as well as the old,” Ms Plastow said.

Having already completed walks from Alice Springs to Adelaide, Darwin to Adelaide to name a few, this will be Ms Plastow’s final walk, and one that she is hoping will give her an additional reason to celebrate on her 70th.

Anyone wishing to donate is asked to visit Gill’s Every Day hero page.
