The impact ‘moving’ has on seniors

The ageing population is climbing at a rapid rate with the eldest of the baby boomer generation now in their senior years, creating a need for more efficient aged services.
An innovative Brisbane based business to help seniors overcome the problems they face when moving from their family home to an aged care facility is now being utilised by Queensland care provider, Tall Trees.
The association between Tall Tree’s Care Communities and Golden Years Home Transitions will ensure seniors receive the best in care, and that they get there in a “hassle free” way.
Golden Years Home Transitions managing director, Cameron Early, says his company is designed to provide all encompassing home transition services, taking the stress away from seniors.
“Change is a major trigger for stress for seniors, and moving into a new home is one of the biggest changes they’ll undergo during their golden years,” Mr Early says.
“Our business assists with every stage from property valuation and selling a home, to arranging removalists for the final move into their new aged care home and cancelling any utilities and subscriptions they have under their name at their old address.
“Very often, seniors experience a lot of emotional distress when they move from the place that has been home for decades, especially when the move makes them feel like they may lose their independence.”
Tall Tree’s cofounder, Phil Usher, says for residents, Tall Trees is like living at home where they retain control, dignity and independence while also having 24/7 onsite nursing care.
“Our residents recognise our care model as the best way to make the transition from various stages in their lives without the physical and emotional disruptions of moving,” Mr Usher says.
“We provide affordable care services from low right through to complex high care, including transition, dementia specific and palliative care directly to each residents’ own home.
“This means even if their care needs change, they’ll never have to move again, even couples with different levels of care can remain living together.”
Mr Usher adds the cooperation between the independent businesses of Golden Years and Tall Trees Care Communities was an obvious strategic alliance to make.
“We created our care model in order to prevent residents moving from home to home as they need higher levels of care like they would be forced to do in institutionalised care, as we understood the impact that moving has on seniors,” Mr Usher says.
“However, before we can settle residents in and cater for all their care needs, there’s one last move they need to make which is why Golden Years Home Transitions is so important to us.
“The health and wellbeing of seniors is our highest priority, even if they’re not yet our own residents.”
Tall Trees Care Communities are located in Redland Bay, Tanah Merah, Rochedale, Caboolture and Banora Point.
