Survey on older women’s experiences of widowhood

Posted
by DPS

Researchers at Curtin University’s Sydney campus are investigating the impact of widowhood on health and wellbeing and how best to foster this transition to promote coping and adjustment within the context of contemporary Australian society.

They are seeking participants who are women, aged 65 or over, whose husband/partner has died within the past two years.

Participation in this study involves being interviewed individually by a female researcher concerning the women’s recent experiences and thoughts and completing two questionnaires regarding their health and wellbeing.

Participants will be contacted twice more within a 12-month period to have follow-up discussions with the researcher.

“Findings of this study will lead us to a better understanding of women’s experiences and needs during this time which will help us develop programs and services to best meet the needs of women,” the researchers said.
