Stumps pulled for Australia’s oldest practising lawyer

George Stott Bilbie, Australia’s oldest practising lawyer, has just died at the age of 100 in Newcastle, NSW.

On behalf of the Australian Government, the Minister for Ageing, Mrs Justine Elliot, conveyed her official condolences to Mr Bilbie’s wife, Eileen May Bilbie, whom he married in 1944.

Mr Bilbie was born on 31 May 1908 and was admitted as a solicitor in 1938.

Mr Bilbie was practising at Bilbie Dan Solicitors doing conveyancing work until the day he died.
