Straight talking and down to earth are top Aussie attractions – according to Aussies

Being down to earth, straight talking, and welcoming and accepting are three major features that Australians believe attract other nationalities.

The characteristics were prominent in a survey released by the Commonwealth Bank. Down to earth polled 91% support, straight talking (82%), and welcoming and accepting (76%).

Other high rating features seen as attractive to other countries were honesty (69%) and community mindedness (65%).

Australians themselves were shown to be most proud about Aussies succeeding on the world stage (eg Kylie Minogue, Nicole Kidman, Steve Irwin, and Nobel prizewinner Professor Peter Doherty) and the nation coming together after disasters such as the Bali bombing and Cyclone Larry.

Following on the Ashes cricket whitewash victory over England, the survey also showed that Australians believed that the country was best known internationally for its sporting prowess.
