Stage 1 of Mornington Peninsular aged care redevelopment opens
The $22.7 million first stage of the Mornington Peninsula’s aged care redevelopment is now complete, with the first 60 patients moving in to the new Mornington Centre.
Officially opening the Centre, Health Minister Daniel Andrews said that when the Mornington Centre was complete, it would be a community health hub offering residential aged care beds, aged mental health residential care beds, day rehabilitation and hydrotherapy, plus community health services.
The Mornington Centre is being established as a Centre Promoting Health Independence, so it will be a vital support to the Peninsula community in years to come as people age.
In 2006 a quarter of the Mornington Peninsula population was aged over 60. By 2021 nearly one in three will be aged 60 and over, so planning for the future becomes quite critical.
When completed, the Mornington Centre will not only replace and expand on the old Mt Eliza Centre, but will also replace and integrate services from a number of other facilities across the Frankston and Mornington Peninsula areas.
