Spread the love this Valentine’s

They say a person never truly forgets their first love – but for many living with dementia the euphoric feeling of falling head over heels is often a distant memory. They say a person never truly forgets their first love – but for many living with dementia the euphoric feeling of falling head over heels is often a distant memory.

Alzheimer’s Australia is encouraging politicians, through their Valentine’s Day campaign, to “put themselves into the shoes” of 1.2 million people who care for someone with dementia.

Encouraging politicians to support the Fight Dementia Campaign by investing $500 million into dementia research, Alzheimer’s Australia hopes to “improve dementia care today” and reduce the number of people living with the neurological disorder in the future.

With thousands of Valentine’s Day cards already addressed to leaders at their offices across Australia, Alzheimer’s Australia is calling on people to write their plea message to reach leaders in time for Valentine’s on 14 February.

Cards are available from your local Alzheimer’s Australia office. For those who cannot visit a local office, call Alzheimer’s Australia on (02) 6254 4233 and they will fill out a card for you or you can order in bulk.

Alzheimer’s Australia staff members and supporters will also be in popular spots across Australia handing out Valentine’s Day cards to the local community to raise awareness and to encourage more people to join the campaign.

The team will be at the following locations to ‘spread the word of love’ and encourage the fight against dementia:

  • Victoria: Flinders Street Station, 4pm – 7pm
  • New South Wales: Sesquicentenary Square (near Martin Place), 10am – 2pm
  • Australian Capital Territory: Garema Place (Civic), 11am – 2pm
  • Western Australia: Karrinyup Centre, 10am – 1pm
  • South Australia: Rundle Mall, 10am – 1pm
  • Tasmania: Salamanca Square, 10am – 1pm
  • Queensland: Queen Street Mall, 10am – 1pm
  • Northern Territory: Casuarina Square, 10am – 1pm
