Southern Cross Care (SA, NT & VIC) Inc has announced a major redevelopment of its long-standing Northfield retirement living site in South Australia, with 29 new architecturally designed homes to be built under the name Parkview Retirement Village.

The new village will replace the original 40 affordable retirement units opened on the site in 1974. Those units, vacated and demolished in 2025, made way for a modern retirement offering designed to support ageing in place and independent living.

Parkview Retirement Village will feature 29 two-bedroom homes, each including built-in wardrobes, open-plan kitchen, dining and living areas, a spacious bathroom with second toilet, separate laundry, reverse cycle ducted air-conditioning, NBN provisions and secure automated garages. The homes will incorporate age-friendly design features aimed at supporting residents to remain active and independent for longer.

A new community clubhouse and landscaped garden will sit at the heart of the development, with a focus on fostering connection and social wellbeing. Southern Cross Care will manage maintenance of all fittings, fixtures and common areas, reducing the day-to-day burden on residents.

Chief Executive Officer David Moran said the development would provide high-quality homes at an affordable price point.

“All retirees deserve to enjoy a good quality of life, in a home that is well suited to their needs,” Mr Moran said.

“Parkview will deliver the perfect blend of affordable homes built for quality and comfort, community facilities that foster social connection and encourage an active lifestyle and an ideal location for staying connected to the broader community.

“We look forward to supporting the future residents of Parkview to be Better for life.”

Civil works have commenced, with construction expected to begin in March. An information session for prospective residents will be held at the Northgate Community and Sports Club in early March.

Located in the City of Port Adelaide Enfield, Northfield is around 20 minutes from the Adelaide CBD and offers access to essential amenities and transport links, making it an increasingly attractive location for affordable retirement living.

Established in 1968 as a charitable not-for-profit, Southern Cross Care (SA, NT & VIC) Inc. provides aged care, health and retirement living services across South Australia, the Northern Territory and Victoria.
