Skin cancer examinations best done as a couple
Learning how to check for skin cancers is best done with a partner, as it encourages you to continue checking rather than if you learned alone.
Archives of Dermatology reported on a group of people who had previously had melanoma and were randomly assigned to either a group or solo check lesson then follow up over a four month period.
Those who learnt in partnership to examine moles for ABCDE – asymmetry of shape, border irregularity, colour variation, diameter of 6mm or more, and evolution (changing over time)- were twice as likely to continue self examination.
