The Federal Government has released its latest skin cancer campaign in time for the summer months. The 2009/10 National Skin Cancer Awareness Campaign focuses on the dangers of cumulative exposure to the sun.
The launch coincided with the Cancer Council’s stark warning at Bondi Beach in late November where 1,700 beach towels were laid out to symbolise the number of Australians who lost their lives to skin cancer every year.
Australia has the highest incidence of skin cancer in the world, with 10,684 new melanoma cases in 2005, and 430,000 diagnosed non-melanoma cases in 2008.
