Silver Chain volunteer awards
Silver Chain has recognised the outstanding contributions made by its volunteers to the organisation and to the health and wellbeing of the Western Australian community.
Brad McKay, Silver Chain team leader volunteer services, said “We have over 500 volunteers working with Silver Chain, more than half of whom help our clients and families in country and remote locations.
“Our trained volunteers enhance the quality of service Silver Chain provides to clients and their families through a range of activities. These include providing carer respite and companionship, conversation and support as well as providing assistance at special events, promotions and for general fundraising initiatives.”
Every year Silver Chain recognises their valued support through the Silver Chain Volunteer of the Year Awards which recognises volunteers across four categories; Hospice, Community, Country and remote services, and Fundraising.
Silver Chain Hospice Care Services Award: June Bremner from Perth has been a volunteer with Silver Chain for over 20 years providing support to families in hospice care services. She is a great mentor to new volunteers coming into the service and is extremely dedicated and respected by her peers.
Silver Chain Country and Remote Services Award: Joy Wood from Margaret River has been volunteering for Silver Chain since 1990 and is considered a very valuable member of her team. She supports clients at Silver Chain’s Community Day Centre, does local transports and assists with Meals-on-Wheels deliveries.
Silver Chain Community Volunteer Award: Diana Brown initially volunteered for the Silver Chain Social Enablement program two years ago, and has continued her efforts under the Social Support program.
Silver Chain Community Fundraising Award: Mr and Mrs Charlie and Nellie Schuiling from Rockingham have dedicated more than 14 years of volunteer service to fundraising for Silver Chain services and supporting clients and families in the Peel area. Their dedication has contributed to the purchase of equipment for hospice services, clinical and home support clients in the area.
National Volunteer Week ran from 10 – 16 May 2010.
