Silver Chain has welcomed Mark Cockayne as the new director for Silver Chain’s Hospice Care Service.

“With Silver Chain’s community-based palliative care service, 65% of palliative care clients realise their aspiration of dying in the comfort of their own home with their family around them. This compares with other states’ rate of approximately 30%,” said Mr Cockayne.

“In the last 40 days of life, community based palliative care costs approximately one quarter of the inpatient alternative, yet outcomes are the same (or better), patient’s preferences are realised and the capacity of families to be involved in the care of loved ones is supported.

“I believe that good health care comes from integrating primary and specialist health care services and I have a very real commitment to palliative care and a passionate focus on positive outcomes of service provision.”
