Shake your family tree on 27 February
National Archives offices around Australia have invited all Australians to a national day of activities – Shake your family tree – on Wednesday, 27 February from 10am to 4pm.
Shake your family tree activities will be held in every capital city and visitors will be shown how to go about finding records about themselves, their parents, grandparents and other relatives.
The day includes talks, preservation workshops, demonstrations, introductory research training and there will be lots of take-home goodies.
“These days more people are interested in finding out about their family background and we have a wealth of information that can help them do that,” said Ross Gibbs, director-general of National Archives.
“We’ve probably got something on nearly every family in Australia.”
With expert family historians on hand, some of the personal treasures visitors may find include valuable letters, photographs and other documents in service records, immigration and citizenship applications, employment records, copyright registrations and other government records.
