Services across Australia announced
The Minister for Human Services, Chris Bowen, announced the next 21 sites to offer Centrelink and Medicare services side by side by mid-2011 as part of the Gillard Government’s service delivery reform agenda.
The co-location of services in another 21 locations will bring the total to 42 sites across Australia by mid next year.
Mr Bowen said that co-locating Centrelink and Medicare services is about simplifying the way people deal with Government by giving them better access to a more comprehensive range of services from the one location and that the sites have been selected according to a number of factors, including population demand, distance to other services and existing capacity.
By mid-2011, Medicare Australia services will be available from an additional eight Centrelink Customer Service Centres. In these areas, services from the existing local Medicare office will not change, but Medicare staff will also work from the local Centrelink office for customers’ convenience.
