Seniors concerts to be a big hit
Growing older doesn’t mean slowing down – and aged care provider Tall Trees is proving this with a series of free big band concerts for seniors this year. Growing older doesn’t mean slowing down – and aged care provider Tall Trees is proving this with a series of free big band concerts for seniors this year.
The first concert begins next Monday (14 May 2012) at the Logan Entertainment Centre in Queensland.
A series of other shows will be performed at a variety of locations in southeast Queensland and northern New South Wales throughout 2012.
The Tall Trees Big Band is a 10-piece ensemble, including some of Australia’s finest musicians, and is dedicated to recreating the music and nostalgia of the great big bands of the 30s, 40s and 50s – but with an added modern twist.
With a repertoire encompassing classics such as ‘I get a kick out of you’, ‘Fever’ and ‘Ain’t no sunshine’, there is something for everyone with a love of the classic jazz and big band sounds.
The band’s lead vocalist Terry Hannagan says the program is a great way for Tall Trees to “give back to the community”.
“I grew up listening to the jazz classics because my parents were big fans of swing music, and it’s timeless material that appears to a wide variety of ages.
“While we’ll be performing a number of jazz standards, the set list will also include some fantastic songs by later artists such as Lyle Lovett and Burt Bacharach,” Mr Hannagan says, adding “it’s good fun, good time music and it will bring a lot of joy to many seniors”.
Tall Trees director Phil Usher claims the concert series may be the “largest leap forward in musical entertainment for seniors on the eastern seaboard”.
“With an incredible four-piece horn section, full backing band and two of the country’s best jazz and blues singers, the Tall Trees Big Band will be sure to take people back to the brilliant era of music.
“At Tall Trees, we believe the most important part about ageing is staying active, having fun and enjoying new or familiar things.
“There’s a real lack of good entertainment options for seniors, and we wanted to address that with this concert series.”
Tickets are free to all seniors. Reservations are necessary. To book your place, or for more information on the Tall Trees concert series, call 1300 304 413 or visit www.talltrees.net.au.
