A new poll by Essential Report, published by Crikey.com last week, shows the changing habits of older consumers.
The findings reveal seniors and middle-aged people account for much less of the overall major retail spend than younger people – but data shows the younger generation are also gradually moving towards online shopping.
The survey finds 46% of seniors and 47% of 55 to 64-year-olds are shopping either a little or a lot less at major retailers and major shopping centres, after respondents identified price and service standards as the main areas of dissatisfaction with major retailers.
The majority of online growth is reportedly driven by consumers aged 18 to 34 years, while 20% of those aged over 55 years are shopping less online.
