Two major forums, hosted at the end of the month, aim to look at what the aged and community sector is doing and how processes and policies can be improved.
The conferences, Dementia + Community Care and Aged Care Nurse Managers Conference, will both be held at Melbourne’s Caulfield Racecourse on 30 and 31 October 2013.
The Dementia + Community Care conference will highlight various issues on dementia, including the impact of dementia on marriage reflecting on the challenges and changed dynamics, and will provide vital insights for service providers as well as assist in terms of policy, planning and staff education.
While not solely focused on dementia, another presentation will address the issue of engaging men with health and community care services. Discussion will include barrier identification, cultural and structural issues and proactive service responses.
Engaging families in the care of residents with dementia will be an important topic at the Aged Care Nurse Managers Conference. It will encourage the use of family carers as a resource who can improve the lifestyle and wellbeing of residents with dementia, and reduce the likelihood of behavioural issues.
Aged care professionals will learn how to educate and support families about dementia; enlist families as sources of information about the person in care planning; and include families in daily activities within the facility.
Total Aged Services is also hosting the Dementia + Recreation National Conference tomorrow and Friday in Melbourne for professionals and managers in residential, community, home or other settings to create quality lifestyles for people with dementia.
