Revamped Better Health Channel website goes live
An Australian health website, Better Health Channel, has undergone a revamp to make it even easier to access expert health and lifestyle information at any time and any place.
Victorian Health Minister, Daniel Andrews, said the new Better Health Channel went live last week with a new interactive design and social media features.
“The award-winning Better Health Channel has become Australia’s number one website featuring the most trusted and respected health and medical information,” Mr Andrews said.
“To celebrate its 10th birthday, the website has undergone a substantial redevelopment with the latest advances in Internet technologies and social media.
“With the new design also comes a new emphasis on providing handy hints and tips on how people can live active and healthy lifestyles to prevent chronic disease.”
Mr Andrews said the new website was even easier to navigate and find information.
“People can also access information including their local GP, pharmacist, dentist and other services on their mobile phone,” he said.
“Among a host of other new features are videos on top health tips for work, play, mind and body and a place to share your own healthy hints.”
Victorians can also become a fan of the Better Health Channel on Facebook where they will receive updates and more information.
Mr Andrews said visits to the website had increased by over one million in the past year to more than 13 million visits, highlighting how more and more people were actively searching for health information online.
“This website delivers a comprehensive library of easy to understand health and medical information which is rigorously checked by health and medical experts,” he said.
The Better Health Channel won the Hitwise Awards for the most visited Health and Medical website in Australia in 2009 and 2008 and is the most visited Victorian Government website.
Over the past year, the top five most requested fact sheets on the Better Health Channel have been Swine Flu with 243,217 page views, followed by mouth ulcers, glandular fever, stomach ulcer and abdominal pain in adults. Recipes are also very popular as are the tools such as the body mass index (BMI) calculator.
