Retired teachers sought for Melb West mentoring
Melbourne Cares, a philanthropic business based organisation is searching for 10 energetic retired teachers and principals to volunteer their time one day per week for 10 weeks and act as mentors for teachers taking on a project in late term one this year.
Leah Sertori, of Melbourne Cares, said “the role of mentor is to be a sounding board for ideas, provide support and direction and create a team with the teacher. We support each of our schools as they commence an Enterprise Learning Project in various ways. Students are inspired, supported and encouraged by their business partner and teacher. We’d like to see students inventing products and creating events that will make a difference in their community and don’t currently exist.
“We have a large number of schools who have expressed an interest in working with a corporate supporter of Melbourne Cares on an Enterprise Learning Project. We need an army of retired volunteer teachers to keep each new project on track and ensure the classroom teacher is well supported. We can match every school with a business and facilitate the growth of a long term relationship.”
