Remarkable seniors, remarkable lives
Older people are important contributors to society and their lives can be just as “fulfilling, rewarding and productive” as those of younger persons. Celebrating the ‘remarkable’ lives of older Australians is UnitingCare Ageing, as it launches its Remarkable Lives campaign.

Celebrating the ‘remarkable’ lives of older Australians is UnitingCare Ageing, as it launches its Remarkable Lives campaign across the state and territory during Seniors Week NSW and ACT this week.
UnitingCare Ageing director, Steve Teulan, told DPS News the campaign tried to highlight those aged care residents and community care clients making “significant contributions” in the community.
“We celebrate every individual here at UnitingCare Ageing and take great pride in our ability to nurture the ‘remarkable’ in everyone who entrusts us with their care,” Mr Teulan said.
Eighty-five year old Jeff Walker (pictured) is just one ‘remarkable’ senior doing ‘remarkable’ things right into old age as he was named Citizen of the Year in Lismore and continues work with many local committees.
“We live in an environment which is very much all about youth. Elders are not valued in the way they should be. So, this campaign will be a reminder to people that the elderly can still make very positive contributions as they age.
“Supporting people to live the lives they want to live, while providing quality, individual care when it is needed, means people can live remarkable lives in their own way,” Mr Teulan said.
NSW and ACT Seniors Week began Sunday, 18 March, with celebrations ending this Friday (23 March 2012).
