Recognition and rewards for Victorian carers
Minister for Senior Victorians, Lisa Neville, has announced two initiatives to recognise and reward carers.
The first is a Victorian Charter supporting people in care relationships to acknowledge the role of carers in our society through 10 key principles.
The Charter articulates the rights and responsibilities of people in care relationships and seeks to empower carers to access the services available to them and provides practical assistance and resources available.
Funding has been allocated to Carers Victoria to promote the Charter and evaluate the impact the Charter has on the lives of carers.
The Charter will soon be available for download at http://www.health.vic.gov.au/agedcare
The second initiative is the Victorian Carer Card Program – a discount and benefit card for unpaid primary carers in Victoria.
Discounts range from travel and leisure, education and home maintenance to health and wellness, automotive and retail, free public transport on Sundays, two return off-peak travel vouchers for travel anywhere within Victoria and discounted entries to government venues.
