Quick check for dementia
Swedish neurologists have developed a two-minute, seven question test to assess dementia risk factors. They include high blood pressure, high cholesterol and obesity. Having all three increases the risk of dementia six times.
Other questions relate to age, sex, education level and time spent exercising, with a top potential score of 15. Those who score highly have a 16% chance of developing dementia within 20 years while a low score equals a 1% likelihood.
Dementia experts say the test is an exciting discovery which could inspire lifestyle changes in those who are at most risk of dementia.
The study was reported in the journal Lancet Neurology.
