Queensland HACC funding
Queensland Disability Services Minister, Annastacia Palaszczuk, has announced a $240,076 boost to home and community care (HACC) services in central western Queensland.
The HACC program provides basic maintenance and support services to frail older people and people with a disability and their carers.
Ten services will share in the extra funding:
- $77,506 for Central West Community Options Project
- $50,000 for Anglicare Central Queensland Homelessness Support Program
- $45,285 for Aramac Home and Community Care
- $30,773 for Longreach Home and Community Care
- $36,512 shared between Barcoo Living, Alpha Home and Community Care, Jericho Home and Communuity Care, Tambo Home and Community Care, Blue Care Central West Respite Service and HACC Home Modications Services.
“They’ll target older Queenslanders and people with a disability, providing them with home modification and support services,” said Ms Palaszczuk.
“This includes help with minor home modifications like grab rails, mobility aids and emergency alarms.
“It will also help people with everyday tasks like showering, personal care, house cleaning mowing the lawn and preparing meals. Additional support for centre based day care will also assist more people to access day activities.
“It’s about improving people’s quality of life and helping them live independently for longer.”
Ms Palaszczuk also announced that a respite centre for the Longreach community was under consideration with RSL Care.
“I want to see more respite services for Queenslanders with a disability and their families in rural Queensland,” she said.
“I’ve spoken with ageing parent carers from Longreach who say they need to go all the way to Emerald to access respite services,” she said.
“It would be more appropriate if we could use the existing space at Pioneer Park to provide respite services in Longreach and the surrounding area.”
