Qld politician calls for standard retirement village contracts
The Member for the Queensland State seat of Caloundra, Mark McArdle, has suggested that the Federal Government should consider introducing standardised contracts for retirement villages.
He has also called for an inquiry into the retirement village industry
His call follows a 10 year battle against the Caloundra Gardens Retirement Village development which resulted in a reshaping of some residents’ tenure rights and obligations.
The developer of the village has advised the body corporate that he will abolish the fees, wipe the accrued debt, scrap the leaseback arrangement and restore unencumbered freehold title to their properties provided unit owners agreed to make no other claim against the company.
