Psoriasis heightens risk of heart attack
Psoriasis – a painful skin condition caused by an overactive immune system – could place its sufferers at greater risk of having a heart attack, especially those in younger age groups.
In a five year comparative study reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association , a 60 year old patient with severe psoriasis had a 36% greater risk of a heart attack than a person without psoriasis, but a 40 year old patient with the same level of disease had more than double the risk.
