Prostate cancer research funding boost
Two trials involving innovative new ways to treat one of the biggest killers of Australian men, prostate cancer have received a $2.8 million funding boost from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) over a five year period.
The clinical trials are investigating the use of hormone therapy in addition to radiotherapy, in the treatment of localised but inoperable prostate cancer.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in Australian men. Around 11,200 Australian men are diagnosed with prostate cancer, and more than 2,700 die of the cancer each year.
