Prime Minister makes new funding promises on aged care

The Prime Minister John Howard has promised an extra $248 million over four years to create 2,000 new transition care places in aged care facilities and hospices.
He also promised $86 million over four years for 1,000 community aged care packages – 200 each for high care and dementia specific care and 600 low care places.
Speaking in Cairns on 15 November he claimed the new transition places would free up public hospital beds for acute care patients and allow older people to live in the community.
He also announced a doubling of existing capital funding for nursing Homes – providing an extra $46 million over four years to existing aged care capital programs.
