Pressure ulcer basics

The Victorian Quality Council (VQC) conducted Pressure Ulcer Point Prevalence Surveys (PUPPS) in Victorian health services in 2003 and 2004.

The surveys identified the need for education to be provided to all clinical staff about pressure ulcers.

As a result the VQC developed a Pressure Ulcer Basics (PUBS) on-line package which was targeted specifically at clinicians.

Following on from that work, the VQC has now completed a new package which is specifically developed for use by Certificate III and IV workers in the residential aged care setting.

The aim of the new package is to give those working in residential aged care the ability to  understand the cause and effects of pressure areas, identify residents at risk, provide knowledge of preventative measures and an understanding of communication issues in pressure area prevention.

The package is available on-line at: http://www.health.vic.gov.au/pressureulcers/workers.htm
