Parkinson’s disease may double in 25 years
Scientists say the number of people affected by Parkinson’s disease is likely to double over the next 25 years in the world’s largest countries. A team from New York’s University of Rochester has published the findings of a study in the journal Neurology.
The study says ageing populations around the world will play a key role in the growth of the disease. It adds the biggest increase will take place in Asia, with five million Chinese expected to have Parkinson’s by 2030.
Parkinson’s disease affects the body’s central nervous system, impairing people’s motor skills and speech.
