The “good” smoking news for Australians over 50, is that they represent just 10% of the nation’s smokers but the bad news is that the number of cigarettes smoked by them per day is 16.8, the highest of all age groups.
This average financial consumption totals $3,100 a year being wasted apart from increasing the risk of a variety of health problems including stroke, heart attack, lung and eye weakness, and cancer.
Researchers say that 52% of older smokers are doing it regularly in their homes placing family and even pets at risk.
