Opportunity for growth

Diversional Therapy Australia’s president, Renee Dunne, said the future of diversional therapy was bright.

Diversional Therapy Australia’s president, Renee Dunne, said the future of diversional therapy was bright.

Speaking to DPS eNews yesterday (21 June 2011), Ms Dunne said the new national organisation would provide “opportunity for growth and expansion of a professional capacity to raise the public profile of diversional therapy in the community and health care industry”.

Diversional therapy practitioners work with people of all ages and abilities to design and facilitate leisure and recreation programs. Activities are designed to support, challenge and enhance the psychological, spiritual, social, emotional and physical well-being of individuals.

At DTA’s national conference last month, the DTA management board were able to launch media projects which they had been working on.

“This included a demonstration and navigation session on how to use the new website and members only section, and the type of material that will be available,” Ms Dunne said.

The second launch was DTA’s membership on Facebook, which will allow the work of DTA to be recognised by the world.

There were four new trade exhibitors this year, and many new and interesting resources to see, according to Ms Dunne.

“The conference was fantastic and very successful. The atmosphere over the two days was friendly and filled with learning and opportunity.

“DTA would like to extend their appreciation once again to DPS Publishing for sponsoring the prizes for Best Poster, Best Student Presentation and Best First Time Presentation,” she said.

Feedback from this year’s conference evaluation forms is being reviewed and will assist with planning the 2012 May conference in Queensland.
