Older veterans to receive financial boost

Some 328,000 older members of the veteran community will receive a $500 non-taxable bonus this week, Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Bruce Billson, announced.

The Minister said that a key initiative of the 2007-08 Federal Budget
saw all Australians who were eligible for utilities allowance or seniors concession allowance on 8 May 2007, entitled to a one-off $500 non-taxable bonus.

Veterans’ Affairs will begin paying some $160 million in bonuses this week with most people receiving their bonus on 15 June 2007.

Members of the veteran community who consider themselves eligible for the $500 non-taxable bonus and who have not received a bonus payment by 30 June should visit their nearest office of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs or call 133 254.
