Office Christmas parties pose risk to light drinkers

Infrequent drinkers rather than alcohol abusers take more alcohol related sick leave due to hangovers, according to new SA research. Low risk drinkers are responsible for
to 66% of alcohol related absenteeism.
Office Christmas parties present infrequent drinkers with particular challenges due to the Australian culture of excessive drinking. However, the older the worker the less likely they were to miss a day’s work due to alcohol.
More than 2.6 million workdays are lost each year due to hangovers, at an annual cost of $473 million, according to the study undertaken by the National Centre for Education and Training on Addiction at Flinders University.
