Off road wheelchairs
Swiss-Trac Wheelchair towing tractors are being trialled in Australia to see if they can assist those in wheelchairs to go ‘off road’. The small powerful tractor is attached to any manually propelled wheelchair and is all-terrain – including snow.
With the support of the Cerebral Palsy Support Network and the Jack Brockhoff Foundation, a Victorian man whose young daughter has cerebral palsy, has bought one for her and arranged to have another three Swiss-Trac machines to be imported for trials.
These will be available for testing by volunteers who can manually propel their wheelchairs, and if successful, the Federal Government will be lobbied to add them to the list of subsidized equipment for disability support.
