October is Anxiety and Depression Awareness month
beyondblue wants all Australians to focus on raising awareness of anxiety and depression during October, which is designated Anxiety and Depression Awareness (ADA) Month.
5-11 October is Mental Health Week and 10 October is World Mental Health Day.
While depression affects one in five people in Australia at some point in their lives, anxiety disorders are even more common with one in four people likely to experience one of the following conditions:
- one million adults and 100,000 young people experience depression each year;
- anxiety disorders are experienced by 1.3 million people each year – that is 7% of males and 12% females.
