NSW Multicultural Communication Aid for Aged Day Care Services

 The SWAHS (Sydney West Area Health Service) Multicultural Health Network in NSW has developed a tool to assist both the staff of aged day care centres/centre based respite services and their clients in communicating simple everyday messages.

The tool contains pictograms as well as words and phrases in English and in 30 other languages including: Arabic, Armenian, Assyrian, Chinese, Croatian, English, Farsi/Persian, Filipino/Tagalog, French, Greek, Hindi, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Khmer, Korean, Lao, Macedonian, Maltese, Polish, Punjabi, Pushto, Russian, Samoan, Serbian, Sinhalese, Spanish, Tamil, Turkish, Ukrainian and Vietnamese.

The tool is not designed to replace the service of a professional interpreter.
