2008 marks 50 years of Seniors Week celebrations in New South Wales.

This year it is being celebrated from 6-13 April with 700 events taking place across the state.

The theme for 2008 is LIVE LIFE.

“NSW Seniors Week celebrates the valuable contribution seniors make to our community,” the NSW Premier, Morris Iemma said.

“Here in New South Wales, it is our way of saying thank you to seniors and a great opportunity for all the generations to join with older people to celebrate.”

The NSW Seniors Week Achievement Awards will honour up to 60 seniors and seniors’ organisations, from across the state, and recognise their outstanding contributions to the development of their communities.

The Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care has also provided NSW Seniors Week grants to support the development and organisation of local NSW Seniors Week projects.

There will be three Premier’s Gala Concerts, showcasing Australia’s best talent, at the Sydney Entertainment Centre.
