New support for grandparents in SA

Grandparents raising their grandchildren in the southern Adelaide are to be given a helping hand by volunteer families who will provide respite for both the grandparents and children.

SA Families and Communities Minister Jay Weatherill has launched the Grandparents and Relative Carer Program, which will pair a child, who is usually cared for by grandparents, with a local family.

The program will see volunteer families sharing holiday time and some weekends with children to help the kids make new friends while helping their grandparent carers enjoy some time off.

All kids in the care of their grandparents are eligible for the program, but priority will be given to children with referrals from Families SA.

For more information phone the program partner, Time For Kids, on (08) 8362 6311.
