A report of four studies involving 1,455 patients taking statin drugs has found that this treatment may reverse some of the effects of heart disease.
The patients were examined by ultrasound for plaque deposits before and after statin treatment. There was an average LDL reduction of more than 23% in the patients studied and an HDL increase of more than 7%.
The report’s authors said that it is not yet clear whether this will produce a meaningful reduction in heart attacks and strokes.
