New social security agreements between Australian and Greece, and Korea
New social security agreements between Australia and Greece and Australia and Korea started on 1 October 2008.
Both agreements help people who have worked in Greece or the Republic of Korea (South Korea) to meet the requirements to qualify for an Australian pension and/or a pension in the other country. They may also enable an Australian pension to be payable to eligible people residing in the other country.
Centrelink has sent Greek and Korean Age Pension forms to customers whose records indicate that they may have an entitlement. People who haven’t received the forms but think they may be eligible should obtain a claim from Centrelink.
Both agreements include provisions covering Australia’s Superannuation Guarantee Scheme, to eliminate the need for people to contribute under both countries’ systems.
