New SA Health Performance Council

An important development under the new SA Health Care Act 2008 will be the establishment of the Health Performance Council (HPC).

The HPC will play a vital role in providing high level independent advice to the Minister of Health on the operation of the health system, health outcomes for South Australia and specific population groups, and the effectiveness of methods used within the health system to engage communities and individuals in improving their health outcomes.

The membership of the HPC will comprise up to 15 members who together:

(a) have a high level of knowledge of, and expertise in, the provision of health care or the administration of health services;

(b) are able to represent the diversities of South Australia’s communities; and

(c) have such experience, skills and qualifications to enable the Health Performance Council to carry out its functions effectively.

Expressions of interest are currently being sought for membership of the Health Performance Council and members of the Health Performance Council will be selected on the basis of their ability to meet these criteria.
