New reverse mortgage product to be trialled

The Over Fifty Group has joined forces with ANZ Banking Group to trial a reverse mortgage product. Reverse mortgages are loans designed to allow retirees access to the equity in their home without having to make repayments of either principal or interest until the home is sold or the borrower dies.

Currently there are about 20 providers of reverse mortgages, led by non-bank lender Bluestone, Macquarie Bank and OFM Investment Group.

Westpac is also piloting an exclusive distribution deal with specialist lender Bluestone.
