New PBS changes from 1 September

Posted
by DPS

Several new listings and a change to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) from 1 September will bring health benefits to many Australians.

Lansoprazole, dispersible tablet formulation (Zoton FasTabs®) is listed for the treatment of peptic ulcer. This formulation is equivalent to lansoprazole capsules and will replace these when they are removed from the Australian market.

Silver sulfadiazine cream (Flamazine®) is listed on the PBS as a replacement for silver sulphadiazine with chlorhexidine cream.

As part of the Highly Specialised Drugs Program, the listing of Thalidomide, (Thalidomide Pharmion®) is extended to patients newly diagnosed with multiple myeloma. Previously, thalidomide was available for people who had relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma who had failed at least one other treatment.

For full details of the new listings and changes go to http://www.pbs.gov.au
