New online options for centrelink nominees

The Minister for Human Services, Chris Bowen, has said improvements to Centrelink’s eServices gives nominees more choice in how they do business with the agency.

“If you’re a nominated person who conducts business with Centrelink on behalf of a customer, you can now register to deal with Centrelink using Centrelink’s Online Service,” Mr Bowen said.

“These improvements mean nominees can now update contact details and view payment details online, without having to visit a Centrelink Customer Service Centre. eServices were previously unavailable to nominees, but feedback from the community has led to its development.

More than 2,000 nominees have already registered to use the online services since they became available in March.

Mr Bowen said the new service will be particularly helpful for carers, many of whom act as a nominee for the person they care for.

“The Australian Government recognises that caring for someone can be a full-time job and a vital part of that role is dealing with Centrelink about payments and services. Carers often act as nominees for Centrelink customers who, for a variety of reasons, may not be able to conduct Centrelink business for themselves.

“This new service means that you can conduct business with Centrelink at a time that suits you – without the need to visit a Centrelink Customer Service Centre or call Centrelink during business hours”.

Nominees can use Centrelink’s Online Service by visiting http://www.centrelink.gov.au
