New Labor dental plan
The Federal Labor Opposition has proposed a new plan for dental care which aims to cover people not previously entitled to public health treatment. It will also address the crisis Labor says was created by the Government’s decision to strip $100 million per year from dental care when it ended the specific Commonwealth dental health assistance program.
Deputy Labor leader Julia Gillard says the program will benefit low-income families. “The Australian Council of Social Service has said to us that some 40% of Australian adults have either gone without or deferred dental care because of the cost.”
Labor says its dental policy will be more far-reaching than previous Labor programs, addressing the 650,000 people waiting for dental care.
