New head for Catholic Health Australia

The board of Catholic Health Australia has appointed Martin Laverty as its new chief executive officer (CEO).

Trained as a lawyer with a Master in Laws, he is a policy advocate with many years national and international experience in public health, disability and social policy. He is also an active community volunteer, an experienced company director and board chairman, and practicing Catholic.

Among the many organisations he has worked for or provided counsel to are the NSW Muscular Dystrophy Association, The Australian Red Cross, Medical Industry Association of Australia, CSL, Canteen, The Smith Family and the Government of Abu Dhabi.

He officially takes up the post on 5 May 2008 and replaces Francis O’Sullivan who is now the CEO of the Australian Medical Association (AMA).
